Mosaic Art Now

Case Study

Website Design & Development and Marketing Design

Author, curator and editor of Mosaic Art NOW Nancie Mills Pipgras was a well-known and active art blogger when she joined MAN in 2008. Although the art collective began as a publication, Nancie knew there was a community waiting to partake in the beautiful world that had been created in those pages. ZDCA was initially tasked with redesigning the MAN magazine and later, their new website. In order to marry both efforts, ZDCA built a custom site that still serves as a resource for the mosaic art community around the world.

We created a few, interesting page templates that appealed to the content and audience. The category listing page (or list of articles in a particular category), for example, uses a masonry-type layout that randomizes the blocks of content to best fit on the page. The Artists page uses thumbnail blocks to show the featured image based upon a category selection by the user. The Home page main articles and top curtain include elegant animation to reveal more information.

Using custom fields and extending an existing plugin for MailChimp, we created a tool whereby our client can put together a newsletter using stored assets (articles and images) in the WordPress admin section and, upon publishing, create a complete HTML campaign in MailChimp automatically. This allows our client to then simply go to MailChimp and schedule the email.

Social integration was also a key element, allowing MAN to share and promote their most recent articles with their worldwide community.

Additionally, our team designed and print managed their full-printed magazine.

When they came to ZDCA, Mosaic Art NOW was the largest mosaics magazine in the US, ready to step into the world of digital publication. We designed and print-managed what was to be their final printed issue and supported the migration process to digital.

We migrated a Blogspot blog with upwards of 300 posts to a self-hosted WordPress site, all image-heavy. We created a customized theme based upon a premium, purchased theme.
